Zelenskyy Meets with Special Envoy of Pope Francis
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Special Envoy of Pope Francis, who is on a visit to Ukraine on Tuesday.
As the Office of the President reports, during the meeting, Zelenskyy and Zuppi discussed the situation in our country and humanitarian cooperation between Ukraine and the Holy See in the framework of the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia continues to commit horrific war crimes against Ukraine, the latest of which is the blasting of the Kakhovka HPP dam.
The President and the Vatican Cardinal also "discussed in detail the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula and the need to involve the widest possible range of countries, including the Global South, in the Global Peace Summit."
Matteo Zuppi handed over a letter from Pope Francis to Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Italian media reports, the envoy of Pope Francis, who arrived in Kyiv the day before, also held talks with the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and some officials, including ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, discussing the issue of the deportation of Ukrainian children.
Zuppi also visited Bucha, where he paid tribute to the victims and laid a bouquet of flowers.
Earlier, it became known that Pope Francis asked Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the head of the Italian Bishops' Conference, to create a peace mission for the war in Ukraine.
Presumably, this is the mission that the Pope mentioned during his visit to Hungary in April without disclosing details.
