Wednesday, 7 June 2023

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan proposed on Wednesday to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to create a joint commission to investigate the events at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station.

As the office of the Turkish leader reports, Erdoğan emphasised the importance of conducting a "comprehensive investigation of the explosion at the Kakhovka dam in a way that leaves no room for doubt."

"Erdoğan stated that a commission could be established with the participation of Russian and Ukrainian experts, the UN, and the international community, including Türkiye, and that Türkiye is ready to contribute in this context," the statement said.

The Turkish leader also discussed with Putin the implementation of the "grain deal" and promised to "make the necessary efforts to establish a just peace."

Earlier on Wednesday, Erdoğan mentioned a commission for investigating the sabotage of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station during his conversation with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.

On the morning of 6 June, Ukraine’s Operational Command Pivden (South) reported that the Russian occupation forces had blown up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), with Kherson Oblast Military Administration confirming this information. Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Oblast Military Administration, noted that they had started the evacuation of the local population from dangerous areas.

US President Joe Biden previously expressed a firm readiness to provide the necessary assistance to Ukraine following the explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station by Russians.
