Belarusian Border Guards Claim They Shot Down a Ukrainian Drone

Monday, 17 July 2023

The State Border Committee of Belarus on Monday claimed they intercepted a drone that allegedly crossed the border from Ukraine.

According to the BELTA agency, citing a statement of Belarusian border guards, the State Border Committee of Belarus claims that the day before, on 16 July, an unmanned aerial vehicle was spotted in Homieĺ Oblast, with the help of which Ukraine allegedly tried to "reconnoitre the border territory of Belarus".

"Belarusian border guards used a radio-electronic gun and stopped the further flight of the Ukrainian drone. The quadrocopter was forcibly landed on the water," the report says.

In Minsk, law enforcement agencies started an investigation of the incident, having casually complained about the "provocative actions" of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the situation.

It should be noted that Belarus has claimed to have downed Ukrainian drones before. There were at least two such cases last year, and in February 2023 the State Border Committee of Belarus announced that it shot down a Ukrainian drone near the border with Ukraine.
