Russia Restricts Movement of British Diplomats
The acting Chargé d'Affaires of the United Kingdom in Russia was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), where he was informed about the restrictions imposed on the movement of British diplomatic mission employees in Russia.
According to the Russian MFA's website, these restrictions are being implemented in response to what Russia perceives as "hostile actions by London." Russia claims that these actions hinder the "normal functioning" of Russian foreign institutions in the United Kingdom.
Rmployees of British diplomatic missions will now be required to give a five-day advance notice of any travel plans outside a 120-kilometer radius. The requirement applies to accredited personnel of the British Embassy in Moscow, with the exception of the Ambassador, the Chargé d'Affaires, and the head of the Consular Section, as well as the staff of the British Consulate General in Yekaterinburg, with the exception of the Consul General.
At the Russian MFA, the British representative was also allegedly informed about the "unacceptability of supporting terrorist actions by the Kyiv regime." However, it remains unclear which specific terrorist actions Russia accuses the United Kingdom of supporting.
This spring, Russia suspended the operations of a school attended by children of diplomats from the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States in Russia.
