Kosovo Joined Latest EU Sanctions against Russia and Belarus

Wednesday, 26 July 2023

On Wednesday, the government of Kosovo joined the eleventh package of EU sanctions in response to Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine.

According to local TV channel Klan Kosova, the proposal to join the latest EU sanctions was put forward by Kosovo's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gervalla-Schwarz.

"The agreed package of sanctions includes the following measures: strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with third countries to prevent sanctions evasion, banning the transit of goods through Russia, reinforcing export restrictions, introducing additional sanctions against 71 individuals and 33 legal entities, as well as the Wagner Group," she stated.

The Kosovar government voted in favour of approving this proposal.

Kosovo has consistently supported all EU sanctions against Russia, aligning its foreign policy with that of the EU as a prerequisite for future euro-integration.

The European Council approved the 11th package of economic and personal sanctions against Russia in late June, with the main goal being to reinforce previously imposed restrictions and combat sanctions circumvention.
