Ukrainian Sanctions against Georgian Airways Considered Unfriendly by Georgia
Georgia has deemed the sanctions imposed by Ukraine on Georgian Airways, which has resumed flights to Russia, unacceptable.
According to "Georgia Online," Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili stated that it was a "clearly politically motivated decision." He added that "many airlines from various countries fly to Russia, and there has been no similar reaction or decision from the Ukrainian authorities in other cases."
Davitashvili expressed the opinion that Georgian opposition groups were involved in this decision, indicating the extent to which "certain opposition groups" in Georgia are connected to the Ukrainian government.
"It is sad to say that we have witnessed yet another extremely unfriendly decision from the Ukrainian authorities. We have seen similar cases before when several Georgian citizens fell under the so-called sanctions of the Ukrainian government," he noted.
The Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development believes that this decision by Kyiv does not comply with the standards of relations between Georgia and Ukraine.
"As for the response, as in the previous case, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded, and I am confident that there will be a corresponding response from the Ministry now," Davitashvili concluded.
Earlier, it was reported that Georgian Airways, which has resumed flights to Russia, and its director Tamaz Gaishvili were included in the updated list of Ukrainian sanctions.
In May, Russia lifted its unilateral ban on air travel with Georgia, and on May 20, Georgian Airways operated its first direct flight to Russia after four years.
The ruling party and the government of Georgia were supportive of the resumption of air travel with Russia, while President Salome Zourabichvili called for a boycott of Georgian Airways. The company, in turn, declared her persona non grata on their flights.
