Baltic States Join G7 Declaration of Support for Ukraine
Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia have joined the G7 declaration of support for Ukraine, adopted on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius. This declaration is also informally referred to as the "security guarantees" declaration.
The Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas, the Prime Minister of Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš, and the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonytė, issued a joint statement confirming their countries' endorsement of the G7 declaration of support for Ukraine.
"We will work with Ukraine within this multilateral framework to establish security commitments and arrangements what would help Ukraine win this war as soon as possible, support its economic stability and reconstruction, resilience, reform agenda and advancw its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations," they stated.
The Prime Ministers pointed out that Ukraine's courageous fight against the aggressor helps protect Euro-Atlantic security and the rules-based international order. They pledged to support Ukraine "until victory" and participate in international efforts to safeguard its independence, democracy, and prosperity, as well as hold those responsible for aggression accountable.
"We are firmly believe that only NATO membership will provide Ukraine with security guarantees and a credible deterrent needed to avert future aggression by expansionist Russia. Ukraine's NATO membership will also substantually strengthen Euro-Atlantic security and stability. At the NATO summit in Vilnius, the Allies agreed that Ukraine's future is in NATO. We will continue our stedfast support for Ukraine on its path to join the Alliance as soon as possible," the Prime Ministers noted.
They also committed to cooperating with Ukraine on its path to the EU and hoped for the start of accession negotiations in 2023, following the assessment of the European Commission.
"A strong, independent and prosperous Ukraine that is fully anchored into the Euro-Atlantic family is essential for European security," they emphasized.
Previously, Latvia independenlty joined the G7 declaration in support of Ukraine.
On Wednesday, Bulgaria also decided to join the G7 declaration, becoming the 16th country. Prior to that, North Macedonia and Greece joined.
As known, the G7 countries agreed on a framework document on "security guarantees" for Ukraine during the NATO summit in Vilnius. The leaders agreed on the framework of these guarantees, while specific bilateral agreements will be signed later.
On August 3, Ukraine began negotiations with the United States on a bilateral agreement.
