Portugal to Train Ukrainian Pilots on F-16s — Zelenskyy
Portugal has confirmed its readiness to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
As reported by Interfax-Ukraine, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Thursday in Kyiv after negotiations with President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
"Portugal is a participant in our tank and aviation coalition. Today, Portugal has confirmed its readiness to train Ukrainian pilots and engineering personnel on F-16 aircraft," he said.
"We also discussed possibilities for expanding defence cooperation, including supplying Ukraine with armoured medical equipment and demining equipment," the president noted.
He also highlighted the importance of Portugal joining the Group of Seven (G7) declaration on security assurances for Ukraine.
"We thank you for supporting the Peace Formula, participating in joint work with partners on the summits 'Ukraine – Latin America' and 'Ukraine – Africa'," he added.
According to Zelenskyy, "we rely on robust, systemic work and a systemic agreement for the restoration between our countries."
On Thursday, it was also announced that Norway decided to send F-16 fighters to Ukraine.
Denmark and the Netherlands announced over the weekend their decision to send these aircraft to Kyiv after training.
Ukrainian pilots have begun training on F-16 fighters in Denmark.
