Romanian Army Monitors NATO Border Following Russian Attack 15 KM Away from Romanian Territory
The Ministry of National Defence of Romania has stated that it is constantly monitoring NATO borders following the Russian attacks on Ukrainian targets near Romanian territory.
As reported by Digi24, the Romanian Ministry of Defence emphasized that "no direct military threat to Romanian territory or territorial waters has been detected."
"The Ministry of National Defense strongly condemns the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the continued unjustified and unlawful attacks on areas inhabited by civilians and critical infrastructure elements in Ukraine," the statement said.
The ministry added that they are implementing heightened vigilance measures established according to national and allied plans, continuously monitoring national territory, sea, and airspace, and collaborating with NATO structures to strengthen defence on the entire eastern flank and deter any aggression against allied territory.
On Wednesday morning, Russia attacked the port of Izmail on the Danube River, which is 15 kilometers away from the Romanian city of Tulcea.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis deemed the Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure on the Danube, occurring in close proximity to Romanian territory, as unacceptable.
Russia initiated the attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure in the south following the collapse of the "grain deal."
On 17 July, Russia announced the suspension of the grain deal and threatened "risks" to parties that decide to continue the initiative without the participation of the Russian Federation.
