Former US President George W. Bush said he was "shocked" when he recognised the photo from 17 years ago of Yevgeny Prigozhin, who recently died in a plane crash, serving him food.

According to Business Insider, George W. Bush was asked if he found the news of Prigozhin's death in the plane crash "shocking", and he replied: "No, what's shocking to me is I saw a picture the other day of a G8 summit in St. Petersburg, where he was the guy serving me the food."

"He was Putin's chef, and he was in the picture," Bush added.

He said he could not remember whether he had met Prigozhin in person: "All I know is I survived."

It became known in late August that a plane carrying Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of the Wagner Group, had crashed in Russia. All 10 people on board were killed, including Prigozhin's deputy, Dmitry Utkin, who went by the alias Wagner.

UK intelligence believes that Yevgeny Prigozhin’s death will have a deeply destabilising effect on the Wagner Group.
