Blinken Acknowledges Progress in Ukraine's Counteroffensive and Pledges Long-Term Support
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has stated that Washington sees progress in the Ukrainian counteroffensive, and the US will ensure that Ukraine receives the necessary support both now and in the long-term.
Antony Blinken reminded that during each visit to Ukraine in times of the Russian full-scale invasion, he is struck by the extraordinary bravery and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
"I'm here first and foremost to demonstrate our ongoing and determined support for Ukraine as it deals with this aggression. We've seen good progress on the counteroffensive. We want to make sure that Ukraine has what it needs not only to succeed in the counteroffensive but has what it needs it for the long term to make sure that it has a strong deterrent, strong defence capacity so that, in the future, aggressions like this don't happen again," he stated during a joint press briefing with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister in Kyiv.
The US Secretary of State added that the United States will also work with partners to help Ukraine rebuild and become a strong economy and a robust democracy.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen arrived in Kyiv on September 6, just hours after the Russian missile attack on the capital.
Mette Frederiksen visited Bucha once again and later addressed the Ukrainian Parliament.
Antony Blinken, along with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, paid tribute to the fallen Ukrainian soldiers at the Berkovetske Cemetery. He is also scheduled to meet with the President and Prime Minister of Ukraine.
Reuters stated that the State Secretary's visit to Ukraine will last for two days. It is expected that the US diplomat will announce new aid package for Ukraine within its framework.
