European Commission President May Come to Ukraine in Early November

Wednesday, 25 October 2023

Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission President, is likely to visit Ukraine in early November, which may indicate that the assessment of Ukraine's progress in the "candidate" reforms will be positive.

Radio Liberty editor Rikard Jozwiak said the European Commission president is "likely" to visit Ukraine in early November.

"She wouldn’t go there that close to the publication of the Commission’s enlargement reports (8 Nov) if she didn’t have good news," Jozwiak pointed out.

Earlier, Reuters reported, citing its sources, that the European Commission was preparing a positive assessment of Ukraine's progress in the reforms it must implement to further its path to the EU, but it may contain additional conditions.

On Tuesday, 24 October, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the College of European Commissioners gathered in Brussels, persuading them that Ukraine has fulfilled all the recommendations of the European Commission and is ready to start negotiations on accession to the European Union.
