US Ambassador Says War Gives Ukraine Opportunity to Integrate into NATO Faster
Brigit Brink, US ambassador in Ukraine, believes that the war gives this country an opportunity to move towards the integration into Euroatlantic institutions more quickly.
According to Ukrinform news agency, the ambassador noted during her speech at the seventh Ukrainian women’s forum that the war unleashed on Ukraine by Russia is a "senseless tragedy and a crime against humanity".
"But we all know that in dark times there are also incredible possibilities. I see these opportunities for Ukraine, for all of us – this is the opportunity to transform, which started on the day the independence of Ukraine was declared. From our point of view, this war gives us the opportunity to enhance the movement towards the integration into Euroatlantic institutions, which will be faster than under other conditions, and solidify these opportunities for your dream future," she said.
Brink explained it means that a hundred percent of Ukraine’s population must have an opportunity, ability and courage to use all their talents and capacities to head for this goal.
She remarked that the US is ready to help the Ukrainian women to equally participate in economic and political life on the path to the future chosen by the people of Ukraine.
"Ukraine is undergoing a historic transformation at the moment, and we will continue standing by your side and helping you make it a reality," Brink assured Ukrainians.
A survey published at the end of October shows that if the NATO membership referendum was held in Ukraine right now, this step would be supported by almost 80% of Ukrainians.
According to another survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology on the order of the Consultative Mission of the EU, 65% of Ukrainians trust the EU, and 59% trust NATO.
