Truck Traffic at Dorohusk-Yahodyn Checkpoint Unblocked

The head of the Dorohusk municipality, Wojciech Sawa, has decided to disperse the hauliers protest at the border with Ukraine ongoing since 6 November.

As reported by Interia, Wojciech Sawa stated, "I can no longer allow the residents of the municipality to lose their jobs."

"Hauliers are not fulfilling agreements. They are not allowing ADR transport (dangerous goods – Ed.) to pass, as agreed," he added.

After 1:00 PM, the participants were officially informed that the blockade was over. The municipality cited two reasons: "significant danger to property" and "blocking traffic."

Protesters were given 15 minutes to decide on their next steps.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda has confirmed the unblocking of the checkpoint.

"According to information received from the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland, today at 2:00 PM (Kyiv time), the protest by Polish hauliers at the checkpoint Dorohusk – Yahodyn has ended. Registration and passage of freight vehicles across the border in both directions are carried out in the usual mode," said Andrii Demchenko, the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service.

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration and Minister of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov has noted that the government would continue efforts to unblock the remaining checkpoints.

"The blocking of the largest cargo checkpoint lasted more than a month. During this time, the team of the Ministry and the Embassy was literally dealing with the issue of unblocking on a daily basis. We held dozens of meetings and negotiations at all possible levels. It was a difficult job, but it is not over yet. The border must be fully unblocked, and further blockages will not be allowed," he wrote on Facebook.

As reported by Interia, the protesters remain persistent and announced that the protest could take "another form."

The decision of local authorities only applies to the Dorohusk border crossing. Currently, three other checkpoints on the Polish border remain blocked.

On Friday, it was reported that Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) sent the first batch of lorries to Poland to bypass the blocked road checkpoints.

The blockade of the border with Ukraine by a group of Polish hauliers has been going on for over a month. Recently, Slovak hauliers have joined the blockade.
