US President Joe Biden has reacted to a defeat in a procedural vote in the US Senate on aid for Ukraine, calling it political blackmail.

Commenting on the Republican Party’s refusal to support a bill in Congress on allocating additional funds to guarantee national security, which also provides for aid for Ukraine, Biden said that the stakes were too high.

"Republicans in Congress are threatening to cut off support for Ukraine unless they can force through their extreme partisan border policies.

It’s political blackmail, pure and simple. The stakes are too high and the consequences are too significant for political brinkmanship," Biden wrote on Twitter (X).

A bill on the provision of aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan has failed to pass a procedural vote in the US Senate.
