Moldovan Defence Ministry explains why Russian drone was not detected in time

Tuesday, 13 February 2024

In Moldova, military radars and early warning systems failed to detect a Russian drone that crashed in the country near the Ukrainian border in time.

As reported by Radio Chișinău, the Defence Ministry explained why the Russian drone could not be detected in time.

"The main reason is the low flight path of the target, its small radar cross-section, and its distance from the radar unit [closest to it], something which isn’t helped by the curvature of the terrain," the Defenсe Ministry noted.

The downed drone was discovered near Etulia, Vulcǎneşti district, near the Ukrainian towns of Bolhrad and Reni; the discovery was reported on the afternoon of 11 February.
