Slovak PM assassination attempt: Fico in "life-threatening" condition, next few hours to be crucial
The account of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has released a formal statement regarding the assassination attempt on the official; the post states that he is in a "life-threatening" condition.
A post on Fico's Facebook account briefly states that he was shot several times, "and is now in a life-threatening condition."
"He is currently being taken by helicopter to Banská Bystrica since the road to Bratislava would take too long given the urgency of the situation. The following few hours will decide everything," the post says.
Fico's Facebook page does not clarify the extent of the wounds, but the Aktuality portal reports that the Slovak prime minister was injured in the abdomen. The Guardian and the representative of Fico’s party, Smer, also confirmed the information.
On 15 May, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot after a government meeting and taken to the hospital.
Witnesses say the prime minister approached those who greeted him, at which point numerous bullets were fired. Following that, the government leader collapsed to the ground.
