US Department of State says it fundamentally wants Ukraine to win war against Russia
The US "fundamentally" wants Ukraine to win the war against Russia, said Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the US Department of State, during a briefing.
"We fundamentally want to see Ukraine win this war and have made that clear, including, I think, by providing them with billions of dollars in security assistance," Matthew Miller said.
Miller also reiterated the statement of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken where he spoke about the strategic defeat that Russia "has brought on self" by launching the war.
"I think our position on who we want to see win this war and who we want to see lose it has been pretty clear for more than two years now," Miller concluded.
The US expressed its expectation that Kyiv will use the weapons it was given to hit targets inside of Ukraine.
Earlier, Victoria Nuland, former US Deputy Secretary of State, whose career was connected with Ukraine and Russia, expressed her belief that Kyiv has the right to strike military targets on Russian territory and that Washington and its allies should help it do so.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Ukraine had asked the Biden administration to help identify targets in Russia that Kyiv could strike with its own weapons, and separately asked to lift restrictions on the use of US-provided weapons against military targets in Russia.
