Media learn contents of new US$150 million US military aid package for Ukraine
A new US military aid package for Ukraine worth US$150 million could be announced on Tuesday, 25 June, and will not include cluster munitions.
As reported by AP, citing US officials on condition of anonymity, the upcoming shipment is expected to include, among other things, ammunition for HIMARS rocket launcher systems, anti-tank and small arms, grenades, as well as 155mm and 105mm artillery shells.
One of the US officials stated that they could not confirm whether this aid package includes ATACMS missiles, which can be launched from HIMARS systems, but indicated that the aid does not include cluster munitions.
On 24 June, Carla Babb, correspondent of Voice of America, reported that the US may announce another military aid package for Ukraine valued at US$150 million as early as 25 June.
The latest US$225 million military aid package for Ukraine was announced by the US on 7 June.
This was made possible after the US Congress approved supplementary funding for the aid for Ukraine and allies valued at US$61 billion in April after months of delay.
Moreover, the US decided to prioritise the supply of anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine before honouring other states’ requests. This mainly concerns Patriot and NASAMS missiles.
