Wednesday, 24 July 2024

The State Security Service of Georgia claims that the plot to assassinate Bidzina Ivanishvili, the honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream party and an oligarch, was "arranged and financed by former high-ranking officials of the Georgian government and former law enforcement officers in Ukraine."

"The aim of the aforementioned criminal activities is to overthrow the country's government by means of violence, amid the creation of unrest and weakening of the authorities," the Georgian security service reported.

The security service added that active investigative and search measures are being conducted in the criminal case, during which the investigation summons "specific individuals" as witnesses.

Earlier, it was reported that Georgian volunteers who participated in combat on the side of Ukraine in the war against Russia are being summoned for questioning by the State Security Service of Georgia.
