Ukraine to receive 500,000 shells by year's end under Czech initiative

Wednesday, 24 July 2024

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala stated that Ukraine will get half a million artillery shells by the end of 2024 as part of the programme undertaken by Prague.

As reported by Ukrinform, Fiala emphasised that the Czech initiative's supply of shells to Ukraine in the next months "will continue at a predictable pace."

"By the end of the year, the Ukrainian army will have received about 500,000 rounds of 155-mm ammunition. At the same time, I can assure you that we already supply hundreds of thousands of large-calibre ammunition of other varieties each year," he added.

The Czech Prime Minister noted that 15 countries are participating in the initiative to provide Kyiv with shells.

"We believe and do our best for other states to join, and the current countries to continue their support next year," Fiala said.

Czechia is looking for artillery ammunition for Ukraine across the European Union and beyond, as part of a plan first outlined by President Petr Pavel at the beginning of the year.

Earlier, it was reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would receive 50,000-100,000 large-calibre artillery shells a month under the Czech initiative.
