US allocates US$200 million of military aid for Ukraine
John Kirby, White House National Security Communications Advisor, stated at a briefing on 29 July that the US would supply Ukraine with another military aid package valued at US$200 million.
According to Voice of America,Kirby stated that air defence systems, artillery ammunition for HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems, mortar ammunition and anti-tank missiles Javelin were included in the package.
This package is allocated through the mechanism of the presidential drawdown authority, meaning that the armament is being transferred directly from the storages of the US army.
In addition to this, the Pentagon will supply Ukraine with air defence means, weapons for long-range strikes and anti-tank armament through the mechanism of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).
The latest US$225 million military aid package was announced on 11 July. The package included one Patriot air defence system.
Recently, the Pentagon found errors in its accounting calculations, which have allowed it to allocate additional US$2 billion for weapons for Ukraine.
