Friday, 5 July 2024 —

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg hopes that Ukraine will join the Alliance within the next decade.

As reported by Bild, Stoltenberg was asked in an interview with the DPA news agency about the possible expansion of NATO in the next ten years.

"I really hope that Ukraine will become an ally," said Stoltenberg, who is leaving the post of secretary general in the autumn.

Shortly before the NATO summit in Washington, Stoltenberg also called for even more military assistance to Ukraine.

"The stronger our support, the faster this war can end... The more commitments we make for the long term, the faster the war can end," Stoltenberg said.

Recently, the media also reported that at the 75th anniversary NATO summit in Washington, a new structure to coordinate all types of long-term assistance to Ukraine will be announced: the NATO Security Assistance and Training Unit for Ukraine (NSATU).

In addition, they are discussing creating a special representative post in Kyiv to monitor the international coordination of arms supplies and exercises for the Ukrainian Armed Forces under the auspices of NATO.

At the same time, Ukraine will not receive an invitation to join NATO at the summit in Washington.
