Zelenskyy wishes to closely cooperate with new UK government
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, has congratulated Keir Starmer and the UK Labour Party on their convincing election victory.
Zelenskyy noted on X (Twitter) that Ukraine and the UK have been and would remain reliable allies.
"We will continue to defend and advance our common values of life, freedom and a rules-based international order," he tweeted.
He wished the new UK government success both in domestic affairs and in strengthening the UK’s leadership in the international arena.
"I look forward to working closely together on strengthening the Ukrainian-UK partnership and restoring international peace and security," Zelenskyy said.
He also thanked outgoing PM Rishi Sunak for the uninterrupted support for Ukraine by the UK government under his leadership.
"Challenger tanks, Storm Shadow missiles, F-16 training for our pilots, and the first bilateral security agreement are just a few of our shared achievements that Ukraine will never forget. Thank you, Rishi," Zelenskyy stated.
Following the results of the parliamentary elections on 4 July, the government will change in the UK.
Labour will have a majority in the new composition of the House of Commons. UK PM Rishi Sunak has already admitted the Conservative Party’s defeat.
Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, is expected to become the next head of the UK government.
