Germany hands over large military aid package with more than 20 Leopard 1 A5 tanks to Ukraine
Germany has handed over a new military aid package to Ukraine, which includes, among other things, 22 Leopard 1 A5 tanks and more than 60,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition.
In addition to the 22 Leopard 1 A5s that the country handed over together with Denmark, as well as 61,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition, Ukraine will also receive:
- 5 tracked all-terrain vehicles Bandvagn 206 (BV206)
- 1 all terrain tracked carrier Warthog
- 3 self-propelled anti-aircraft guns GEPARD with spare parts
- 2 air surveillance radars TRML-4D
- 10 machine guns MG3 with 500 spare barrels and breechblocks
- 1 million rounds of ammunition for firearms.
In particular, Germany provided Ukraine with 30 VECTOR reconnaissance drones with spare parts, as well as:
- 20 reconnaissance drones RQ-35 HEIDRUN
- 20 unmanned surface vessels
- 12 reconnaissance drones SONGBIRD
- 6 Hornet XRs.
The new German package also includes:
- 3 bridge-laying tanks BEAVER with spare parts
- 1 armoured engineer vehicles DACHS with spare parts
- 6 mine clearing tanks WISENT 1 with spare parts
- 16 ground surveillance radars
- 2 AMPS self-protection systems for helicopters
- 2 border protection vehicles
- 112 vehicles (lorries, vans, all-terrain vehicles);
- 8 tanker Zetros.
Since the beginning of Russia's armed invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, Germany has provided Ukraine with materiel from the Federal Armed Forces' warehouses worth about €5.2 billion.
In addition, more than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have received military training in Germany.
Recently, it became known that the German government is allocating an additional €50 million for the treatment of injured Ukrainian soldiers.
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced the country's plans to provide an additional €100 million in aid to Ukraine this winter.
