Russia could attack NATO by 2030 – German intelligence chief
Bruno Kahl, Head of Germany's Foreign Intelligence Service, believes that Russia will be capable of attacking NATO territory within the next six years.
"By the end of this decade at the latest, Russian troops will be able to attack NATO," Kahl stated during hearings in the Bundestag's parliamentary control committee, as quoted by n-tv.
"The Kremlin views the Federal Republic of Germany as an enemy," he explained, noting that Germany is the second-largest country supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian invasion.
"We are in direct conflict with Russia," he said.
He said Russian leader Vladimir Putin is concerned not only about Ukraine but also about "actually creating a new world order," and Russian intelligence services are increasingly using all their means "without any remorse."
"Further escalation of the situation is anything but unlikely," said Kahl, adding that politicians must provide German security services with the resources and authority to counter these dangers.
Germany's Internal Affairs Minister Nancy Faeser warned of an increasing threat from Russian intelligence activities in the country.
It was recently revealed that the German Ministry of the Interior has prepared a draft law that will expand measures for vetting employees in sensitive areas such as information technology and communications, both in government and critical infrastructure, due to concerns about espionage.
Additionally, European intelligence services previously warned that Russia has intensified its sabotage operations.
