It is time for Germany to make decision on long-range strikes into Russia – Zelenskyy

Tuesday, 19 November 2024 —

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that after the statements of the Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin about the renewal of the nuclear strategy, it's time for Germany to support the decision of its partners to allow Ukraine launch long-range strikes on Russia.

As reported by Ukrinform, Zelenskyy noted during a joint press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen that the Ukrainian side is now working to ensure that all countries support the decision on long-range strikes into Russia.

"I believe that following [Putin's] words on nuclear weapons, it is time for Germany to support the relevant decisions," Zelenskyy emphasised.

He noted that "it is critical to include in these decisions a number of options for reducing the Russian Federation's military potential, wherever it may be."

On 19 November, Russian ruler Vladimir Putin issued a decree approving Russia's updated nuclear doctrine shortly after the White House allowed Ukraine to use US-supplied weapons to strike deep into Russia.

The previous time Russia amended the nuclear doctrine in June 2020, replacing a similar document adopted 10 years earlier.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that if Ukraine launched long-range ATACMS missiles on Russian territory, this would mean direct US participation in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
