New aid package and EU integration: Zelenskyy speaks with Polish PM
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held a phone conversation with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The press service of the Ukrainian President revealed that Zelenskyy thanked Tusk for his "firm response to the recent Russian attack and efforts to prevent the political isolation of the Russian dictator from being broken".
The two leaders discussed continuing defence cooperation between Ukraine and Poland. Tusk informed Zelenskyy that Poland was preparing its 45th support package and has already begun working on the next defence package.
They also discussed expectations regarding Poland’s presidency of the EU Council in the first half of next year.
Zelenskyy expressed hope for Poland’s support in negotiations with the EU on opening the first negotiation cluster and simultaneously progressing on other matters.
Zelenskyy also thanked Tusk for leveraging his extensive personal connections to advocate for Ukraine's NATO membership and continued defence support.
The leaders agreed to intensify personal contacts and plan to meet by the end of the year.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk recently commented on Russia's large-scale missile attack on Ukraine, stating that it proved the ineffectiveness of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s phone diplomacy with Putin.
It was earlier reported that after his first conversation in two years with the Russian leader, Scholz called Tusk.
