Harris close to defeat in crucial Pennsylvania

Wednesday, 6 November 2024

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is leading in the swing state of Pennsylvania, which among the key states gives the most votes in the Electoral College and the outcome of which is crucial for Harris's chances of winning.

As reported by Politico, Pennsylvania has the most electoral votes of all the key states (19), and the outcome of the election largely depends on which of the two candidates wins there.

At this time, about 90% of the votes have been counted in the state. According to this data, Trump is ahead of Harris by 221,000 votes, about three percentage points.

In Philadelphia, where Harris is expected to have high support, 37,000 votes remain to be counted.

State election officials say that less than 203,000 ballots were mailed in on time. Of those, approximately 166,000 have been counted, and some may not be counted due to procedural inconsistencies. In the counted postal ballots, the majority is for Harris, but about one in seven votes is for Trump.

In 2020, the results of postal voting in this state played a significant role in Joe Biden's victory.

Before that, it became known that Trump was winning in the swing states of North Carolina and Georgia and was also winning in Iowa, where polls had suggested the potential for a surprising result.
