Biden's team is preparing strong position on Ukraine for incoming Trump administration – Blinken
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the current US administration, led by President Joe Biden, is making efforts to ensure the strongest foreign policy positions for the next administration of Republican Donald Trump, including on Ukraine.
As published in a press release on the US State Department website, CBS presenter Martha Teichner said that critics fear the possible end of the Russian war under Trump will not be in Ukraine’s favour. In response, Blinken said there was no point in speculating on this issue.
"What does make sense is to make sure that we give the next administration, we give the incoming Trump administration, the strongest possible hand for it to play around the world, whether it’s on Ukraine or anything else," Blinken said in an interview with CBS News.
A few days ago, US President-elect Donald Trump said he was already working on organising a meeting with Putin.
Commenting on this statement, the Kremlin noted that the Russian leader is "open to contacts".
Meanwhile, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said that Kyiv expects a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump to take place shortly after the latter’s inauguration on 20 January.
On 12 January, Trump's nominee for National Security Adviser Mike Waltz confirmed that the president-elect's team was working on preparing for his upcoming meeting with the Russian leader and would be in contact with the Russian side "in the coming months".
