Elon Musk to have office near Trump in White House complex – NYT

Tuesday, 14 January 2025 —

American billionaire Elon Musk, who will lead the Department of Government Efficiency in the new administration of US President-elect Donald Trump, is being allocated offices within the White House complex close to the next US president.

The New York Times sources say the premises planned for Musk will be located in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, adjacent to the White House.

The New York Times noted that this location will grant Musk significant access to Trump once he assumes office later this month.

The sources also stated that Musk has discussed with transition officials the level of his access to the West Wing, but this matter remains unresolved.

In addition, it is unclear whether Musk's partner, former Republican presidential candidate and pro-Russian entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, will also have office space in the Eisenhower building.

On 13 November, Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would lead the new Department of Government Efficiency, which, despite its name, is not a government agency.

In recent weeks, Musk has shifted his focus from US politics to European affairs, targeting leaders of Germany and the United Kingdom with personal insults and publicly supporting far-right movements in key European countries.

On 13 January, reports emerged that former Trump’s Chief Strategist Steve Bannon had vowed to do everything possible to block Musk from joining the future White House administration.

Recently, Musk insulted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a post on X (Twitter) after Trudeau ruled out Canada becoming part of the United States, which has been a recurring theme in President-elect Donald Trump’s remarks lately.

Also, Musk wrote on X (Twitter), "Steinmeier is an anti-democratic tyrant". This post came in response to criticism of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier by influencer Naomi Seibt, who is linked to the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD). Musk has publicly urged voters to support German far-right parties and even wrote an opinion column in their favour for Welt am Sonntag.

Musk, along with an advisor to US President-elect Donald Trump, criticised the US calls for Ukraine to allow conscription from the age of 18, which had been earlier reported by the Associated Press (AP) news agency.
