G7 ambassadors call on Ukraine's Prime Minister to ensure work of Energoatom's supervisory board as soon as possible

Tuesday, 14 January 2025 —

The G7 ambassadors have called on the Prime Minister of Ukraine to ensure the work of the Supervisory Board of NNEGC Energoatom as soon as possible.

"As G7 ambassadors, in December 2024, we sent a letter to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal calling on him to complete the signing of contracts as soon as possible and to start the work of the new supervisory board. Having a full-fledged board will be important for discussing new significant investments," EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernová said in response to a written request from Interfax-Ukraine.

She noted that Ukraine voluntarily agreed to bring Energoatom's supervisory board in line with OECD recommendations, but since the election of the new board in June 2024, contracts with independent members have not yet been signed and the board has not been functioning.

On 21 June 2024, Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers approved Timothy John Stone, Michael E. Kirst and Jarek Neverowicz as independent members of the Energoatom Supervisory Board, as well as Tymofii Mylovanov and Vitalii Petruk as representatives of the state.

Since then, the Supervisory Board has not been fully operational.

In December, First Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksii Soboliev said that the government expects the independent members of the supervisory board, whose first meeting has been open since 17 July, to provide a position on contracts and readiness to continue their work.

In early January 2025, Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak (Holos faction) proposed to involve international partners in discussing the disruption of the functioning of the supervisory board of NNEGC Energoatom.
