Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Poland on 15 January, where he will meet with the country's Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The meeting between the leaders will take place in Warsaw.

Poland has assumed the six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union as of 1 January 2025, taking over this role from Hungary.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that Warsaw plans to use the Polish presidency period to strengthen its position as one of the five most influential countries in the EU.

Among its goals, he highlighted leveraging EU support tools to build defence infrastructure such as the East Shield, and to fully use the proceeds from frozen Russian assets.

Sikorski also announced that Poland will ensure the "pace and quality" of the EU’s expansion to the east and south, including Ukraine, Moldova and the Western Balkans.

Ukraine has high expectations for Poland’s EU Council presidency and, following it, Denmark’s presidency. Zelenskyy expressed hope that the presidencies of Poland and Denmark in 2025 would be historic for Ukraine.
