Ukrainian foreign minister says it is important for Ukraine and Moldova to join EU simultaneously
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha believes that the simultaneous accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union is a national interest.
Sybiha was answering questions about Ukraine and Moldova's simultaneous accession to the EU.
"We made decisions on candidate status and the start of negotiations together. We are coordinating with Moldova and are travelling this road together.
I believe that it is in our national interest to achieve this goal together, to become part of the European Union," he said in an interview with European Pravda.
On 20 October 2024, Moldova held a constitutional referendum on European integration. According to the Central Election Commission, the turnout was 50.72%.
A total of 1,531,392 voters took part in the vote. Out of a total of 1,488,874 valid votes cast, 749,719 voted in favour of including European integration in the constitution, and 739,155 voted against.
