Elon Musk criticises UK prime minister and calls for new elections

Thursday, 2 January 2025

American billionaire Elon Musk, a close ally of US President-elect Donald Trump, has  criticised UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and called for new elections in the UK.

The billionaire posted on X (formerly Twitter) a series of messages criticizing Keir Starmer’s tenure as chief prosecutor, calling for the release of far-right activist Tommy Robinson from prison, and claiming that only Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party could "save" the UK.

In response to a new poll showing a decline in support for Starmer’s Labour government, Musk called for a re-vote.

Earlier, Musk had publicly endorsed voting for Germany’s far-right, even writing a column in support of them for Welt am Sonntag. This led to the resignation of the newspaper’s editor, Eva Marie Kogel, in protest.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Alice Weidel leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, revealed that plans are underway for an online meeting between Weidel and Musk.

On Tuesday, Germany's Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck criticised Musk for attempting to influence the German elections.
