US President-elect Donald Trump is expected to call for a "revolution of common sense" in his inaugural speech.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, which reviewed Trump's speech notes, Trump will emphasise that he returns "to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success".

"A tide of change is sweeping the country. My message to Americans today is that it is time for us to once again act with courage, vigor and the vitality of history’s greatest civilization," the WSJ quotes from the president-elect's speech notes.

Sources familiar with the inauguration preparations noted that Trump’s 2017 inaugural address decried "American carnage", but this year’s speech will strike a more optimistic tone. However, there are suggestions that Trump may deviate from the prepared script.

Trump is also expected to forgo the lofty rhetoric of his predecessors, instead directly addressing what he perceives as the nation's most pressing problems and their solutions.

Ahead of his inauguration, Trump reiterated his promise to end the war in Ukraine and prevent a Third World War.

According to media reports, Trump has instructed his aides to arrange a call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin within days of his inauguration.

Polls indicate that 46% of Americans believe Trump’s presidency will bring greater peace and stability to the world, with 88% of his supporters sharing this view.
