Friday, 3 January 2025

A new meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, also known as the Ramstein format, is scheduled for 9 January in Germany.

As reported by the Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne, the meeting will be held at Ramstein Airbase in Germany under the chairmanship of US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

This meeting will become the 25th in total.

Earlier, reports indicated that an additional meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group could take place in December, with the possibility of leader-level talks being discussed.

The Ramstein format was established in 2022 to coordinate US military support for Ukraine under Washington's auspices. It brings together more than 50 countries, the vast majority of which are NATO members.

Ukraine's Defence Minister Rustem Umierov previously said he hopes the Ramstein format will be maintained under Donald Trump's presidency.

NATO officials do not see a significant chance that a change in the US administration will lead to the termination of the Ramstein format of support for Ukraine.
