EU High Representative calls on Russia to cease fire to show goodwill
Kaja Kallas, European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has called on Russia to make a gesture of goodwill and cease fire in Ukraine.
As reoirted by Reuters, Kallas said before a Weimar+ format meeting of European foreign ministers in Madrid that "giving back Ukrainian children that have been deported to Russia" and "releasing prisoners of war" are examples of gestures that Russia could make to demonstrate goodwill.
She also called on the US to put pressure on the Kremlin to end the war.
On 31 March, during the fourth meeting of the Weimar+ support group for Ukraine, the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland and the UK, along with Kallas and European Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius, will discuss increasing military aid and security guarantees for Ukraine, as well as Europe's future role in the peace process.
The Madrid meeting is taking place ahead of an informal summit of EU defence ministers in Warsaw, which will primarily assess the EU’s real capacity to increase military support for Ukraine – particularly the urgent provision of ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
