Dozhd (Rain) TV Channel To Stop Broadcasting in Other EU Countries as Its License Revoked

Thursday, 8 December 2022

Estonia and Lithuania, following Latvia, have stopped broadcasting the Russian TV channel Dozhd (Rain), which license was revoked on December 8.

The Latvian regulator revoked the broadcast licence of the Dozhd (Rain) TV channel in the interests of "state security and public order."

It was also reported that representatives of TV Rain had asked for a hearing of the TV channel's case to be conducted in the Russian language.

Dozhd was granted a broadcast license June 6 after it was forced to suspend operations in Russia in March. It gave the right to distribute the created content in the European Union, Russia, the USA, and other countries.

"It was added to the list of programmes rebroadcast by broadcasters providing services in Latvia, the services of audiovisual media service providers on demand, available on the video-sharing platform YouTube. After the broadcasting licence of Dozhd has been revoked, it is not available from December 8 onwards also in Lithuania," the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission reported, writes Delfi.

In Estonia, the Dozhd was broadcasted by three operators, and all of them will also stop broadcasting it from December 8, writes Postimees.

It was previously reported that the Estonian security police withdrew the residence permit of Aleksandr Kornilov, the head of a pro-Kremlin media portal "Baltia," accusing him of serving the interests of the Kremlin.
